I went on a 2-week trip to Spain my junior year of high school with some of the students in my Spanish class. We had the opportunity to travel all around the country and were able to spend 1 week living with Spanish families. Ever since this trip I knew that studying abroad was something that I wanted to make a priority while in college.
After declaring my major in marketing later during my freshman year of college, an opportunity to take a core business class in Rome, Italy arose. The class was a 3-week course during the summer between my sophomore and junior year. I thought that this was the perfect amount of time to fulfill my crave for travel and was a cheaper solution compared to spending a semester abroad. While in Rome, our company visits and the European way of life only made my desire to travel and work abroad stronger, and I began to look into majors with an international focus.
I declared a double major in International Business my junior year, and with that, came the requirement of studying abroad. My trip to Italy didn't meet the requirement for time spent abroad, so I started looking into other programs. University College Cork in Cork, Ireland stood out to me right away, 1. Because Ireland has always been a place that I wanted to visit during my lifetime, and 2. Because Ireland is an English-speaking country. I also learned that a friend who I met while studying abroad in Italy was doing the exact same program, which was the final factor to convince me to commit to this program.
I want to be a Study Abroad Social Media Intern because I want to share my experiences with those interested in studying abroad, those who already have, and those who never had the chance. Studying abroad is one of the greatest opportunities that college provides you with, and I want to be able to highlight my travels and worldly experiences to convince other students to take the plunge and go out of their comfort zones, whether it be for a summer, a semester, or a year. I enjoy documenting my travels via photos and sharing them to my social media accounts and think that I would be a great candidate for this internship. A travel blog is something that I have strongly considered for awhile and this is the perfect opportunity to get me jumpstarted into the creation of one. I hope that this blog is able to positively showcase my experiences and convince other students to take full advantage of studying abroad while in college because if not now, when?
